Locating the Intersection of Suitable Moose Habitat and DEC Hiking trails

This project examined the summer habitat criteria for moose throughout the Adirondack wilderness, analyzing the intersection of suitable habitat and DEC hiking trails to launch a hypothetical citizen science campaign.

Tools/analysis: ModelBuilder, reclassification, distance accumulation, weighted sum analysis, NDVI function, slope analysis, region group tool, and an intersection query.

Below you will find the project workflow and a link to an accompanying StoryMap.

Examples of Work

Creating an Interactive Hiking Map for the Buffalo Audubon Society

Collaborating with the Buffalo Audubon Society, I created an interactive hiking map of their Beaver Meadow Nature Preserve in Western New York.

I assisted in applying for ArcGIS licenses, developed an organizational geodatabase, and executed the final product using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Instant Apps. I acquired the necessary field data using ArcGIS Field Maps and the remaining data from open-source websites. You can access the interactive map of Beaver Meadow below or by selecting the “Interactive Map” button.

Skill Development: Geodatabase management, data acquisition, data sharing, geospatial communication, geospatial education

Tools/Analysis: Habitat delineation, calculate geometry, buffer analysis, overlay analysis, merge polygons, terrain analysis (hillshade, slope, aspect), attribute management
